Carpets & Hardwood
Vacuum carpets can be accomplished by both upright and canister vacuum cleaners. While traditionally upright vacuum cleaners have been viewed as best for carpets because of their beater bar action which agitates the carpet fibers- and hence seen as more powerful, we actually think that is a misconception. In fact canister vacuums with a separate power head are actually more powerful because they utilize two separate motors. The best vacuums for hardwood floors have suction control settings that you can adjust for the surface you are cleaning. They also have either an automatic or a manual height adjuster, so you can change it to the most effective height for cleaning your hardwood. The ability to turn off the brush roll on your vacuum is the most important feature when working with wood. Unless the bristles are made of fine material, they will scratch your hardwood as you roll your vacuum across it. Likewise, you will want rubber wheels so they don’t scratch the wood while you vacuum. Now new vacuums that do well with carpets all have excellent Hepa filtration, sealed bodies and are to be highly recommended for allergy sufferers.
